Pakistan National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) delegation, attending COP 29, had a productive bilateral meeting with His Excellency Kamaladdin Heydarov, Minister of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan, today. The delegation was led by Chairman NDMA, Lt General Inam Haider Malik, along with Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and tech experts from the Pakistan's National Emergencies Operations Center (NEOC).
Pak NDMA's team presented an overview of Pakistan’s proactive disaster management model, which is recognized globally for its effectiveness in mitigating the impacts of potential disasters. Pak NDMA team highlighted the significant benefits of Pakistan’s transition from a reactive to a proactive disaster management approach, aligning with global standards and integrating technology-driven smart response models.
Pak NDMA delegation emphasized their comprehensive national strategy, which has progressively reduced disaster impacts. This strategy includes strengthening disaster-specific academia, establishing technology hubs, developing exposure modeling platforms, and engaging military responders, the private sector, and humanitarian organizations.
Both parties discussed pathways and frameworks for extended cooperation, focusing on simulation exercises, joint training programs, exchange of best practices, and collaborative contributions to national and global climate change initiatives.
