Islamabad:  [6/10/20] – In response to the recent advisories issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Romina Khursheed Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, visited NDMA headquarters. The visit was aimed at discussing the potential impact of the upcoming monsoon season in Pakistan.
During her visit, Romina Khursheed engaged in in-depth discussions with NDMA officials regarding the forecasted monsoon conditions, highlighting the possible affected areas and the anticipated extent of damage. The discussions focused particularly on the impact on agriculture, a critical sector for Pakistan's economy and food security. 
The meeting was briefed detailed assessment of regions likely to be affected by monsoon rains in July and August, potential risks to vulnerable communities and infrastructure, evaluation of the expected damage to crops and farmland.
The meeting also reviewed  NDMA’s preparedness plans and resources allocated for disaster response and coordination with provincial disaster management authorities for effective implementation of precautionary measures.
Ms. Khursheed emphasized the importance of proactive measures and effective coordination between various governmental and non-governmental bodies to minimize the impact of the monsoon season. She expressed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of citizens through timely interventions and robust disaster management strategies.
“Our collaboration with NDMA is crucial in ensuring that we are well-prepared to face the monsoon’s impact and protect our citizens and their livelihoods,” she added.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on the necessity for continuous monitoring and adaptive strategies to address the dynamic nature of climate-related challenges. Both parties reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing Pakistan’s resilience to natural disasters through comprehensive planning and execution.
