Post Event Report of Seminar on Role of Development Organizations in Enhancing Infrastructure Resilience in Pakistan
Pakistan faces severe climate change impacts, with recurrent disasters exposing infrastructure vulnerabilities and causing significant losses. To address these challenges, NDMA’s Infrastructure Advisory & Project Development (IA&PD) Wing organized a seminar on "The Role of Development Organizations in Enhancing Infrastructure Resilience in Pakistan" which was held on 12 February, 2025 at NEOC Auditorium, NDMA HQ, Islamabad. It brought together key stakeholders, including UN agencies, policymakers and industry leaders, to discuss sustainable solutions. The seminar emphasized cross-sector collaboration, innovative approaches and proactive planning to enhance disaster resilience. It reinforced the need for continued engagement and investment in strengthening Pakistan’s infrastructure against climate-induced risks.

Infrastructure Risk Atlas of Pakistan
The Infrastructure Risk Atlas is Pakistan's first initiative on a National Level to identify high risk areas from the perspective of infrastructure vulnerabilities against Floods and Earthquake hazards. The risk maps in this atlas have been devised using information relating to building type and vulnerabilities. It will help in proactively identifying regions with weak and vulnerable structures, enabling targeted disaster risk reduction efforts and interventions. The Atlas will support better decision-making for both government and private sector stakeholders, improving resource allocation and enhancing disaster response and recovery, ultimately strengthening infrastructure resilience for a safer, sustainable future.

IA&PD wing of NDMA Pakistan organized the 1st National Seminar on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure in Bahria University on 23rd September 2024 to foster a dialogue towards disaster-resilient Pakistan through proactive disaster management approaches specifically addressing quality of vulnerable infrastructure in domains of residential, industrial and communication network. This seminar focused on the need to predict, mitigate and adapt to climate change, emphasizing a shift from reactive responses to proactive strategies for enhancing infrastructure resilience

Mahandri bazar risk evaluation and recommendations
The collapse of Mahandri Bridge caused considerable traffic interruptions on vital highways linking Mansehra, Kaghan, Naran and Babusar, causing great problems for both locals and visitors. Following the recent collapse and rebuilding of this bridge and landslide on nearby mountain that is composed of loose soil, there remains a heightened risk of future incidents due to on-going monsoon flow and potential landslides in the area. For enhanced risk reduction, immediate measures are required to ensure the stability and safety of the rebuilt bridge and the surrounding environment.
