In this background,NDMA was given the responsibility of establishing the NationalInstitute of Disaster Management (NIDM), which was a statutoryrequirement under the National Disaster ManagementOrdinance, 2009.

The monsoon season, 2010, brought along with it the destruction and devastation ofunprecedented scale hitherto unknown in the recorded history of Pakistan. Thenightmare started when the easterly monsoon system collided with the developingwestern system over North-Western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on July 2010.
