NDMA’s National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), on 8th May 2024, conducted a one-day SimEx at Balochistan Civil Services Academy (BCSA) Quetta, equipping civil servants to tackle summer contingencies, effectively. Under training, mid-career civil servants of 3rd MCMC along with the faculty of BCSA, Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering & Management Sciences (BUITEMS), and Bolan Medical University attended the exercise.
SimEx scenarios focused on urban flooding, heatwave hazards, anticipatory actions, global best practices, and media engagement. Faculty members of BUITEMS and BUMHS were acquainted on the role of academia and medical practitioners in pre, during, and post-disaster scenarios. BCSA, on the recommendation of NIDM, has already incorporated NDMA’s SimEx model into the curriculum of all promotion and induction courses for the civil servants of Balochistan.
NIDM and BCSA agreed to jointly conduct a week-long Summer Course for the civil servants of Balochistan, each year. These courses and Simulation exercises will sharpen the skills of civil servants in managing disasters. The Director General BCSA, Dr. Hafeez Jamali shall be visiting NDMA HQ soon to witness the capability exposition of NEOC and sign a Letter of Understanding with NIDM, the NDMA’s think tank on disaster management.
