Templates and methodologies for disaster resilient infrastructure 2024
Pakistan has incurred huge financial and economic losses in the past due to disasters. In order to mitigate such impacts, there is a need of developing disaster resilient infrastructure proactively. For this purpose, IA&PD wing has formulated this booklet, analyzing the flaws in existing construction methodologies and proposing templates for various disaster zones by including global best practices suited to the socio-economic conditions of Pakistan.
Basic principles of earthquake resilient construction in mountainous regions
The mountainous regions of Pakistan experience a great deal of seismic activity due to confluence of tectonic plates. Keeping in view this hazard, IA&PD wing has developed an earthquake resilient construction leaflet for local population of this region to reduce the probability of damages during the course of such events.
Basic principles of flood resilient construction in plains
The plains of Punjab and Sindh frequently experience flooding wreaking havoc upon life and property. This necessitates the development of flood resilient infrastructure. Keeping this requirement in view, the IA&PD Department has developed a leaflet for flood reistant construction practices in this region based upon successful techniques tailored in accordance with the socio-economic conditions of Pakistan.
Basic principles of resilient construction in coastal areas
Pakistan Coastal belt is prone to a number of disasters such as tsunami, cyclones and earthquake due to its geographical setting adjacent to Makran Subduction Zone. In order to effectively mitigate the probability of infrastructure damage, the IA&PD Wing has formulated a construction leaflet for locals to reduce structural disaster risks.
